Remember The

Cant Alamo

As you can see by the initial image I visited The Alamo today. A couple of observations which are not likely unique to me:

  1. I thought it would be bigger
  2. I did not think it would be surrounded in a city area

We did not tour the interior of The Alamo today due to my time constraints and scheduling so I will have to return eventually. The next stop was the San Antonio Walk for river boat gambling [not safe for work (nsfw)]. Fortunately we arrived early and we were the first in queue to purchase tickets (some technical difficulties with the point of sale systems). The guided river boat tour was approximately 20-30 minutes and in my opinion similar to Jungle Cruise format. With a knowledgeable Captain and some time/money it could be entertaining if it is your cup of tea. The last spot I had time to visit was Market Square for some shopping and lunch. After lunch I packed up and continued East.

I thought the journey East would be the 10 all the way but I was wrong. I eventually traveled down some what I thought are back roads but there is a term here for it as I learned from my current host: Farm Road. The roads were wonderful and light on traffic. Without a GPS though I certainly would have had a long printout of directions to some areas and no recalculating if I missed a direction. Life must have required more planning than it does now? I saw quite a bit of what seems like large properties and some even with little lakes. Some properties maintained and some neglected.

I finally made it to my next stop after leaving San Antonio. This was after a couple stops for gasoline and a few hours of travel. Instead of tumbleweeds to dodge I had to dodge a couple live obstacles (excluding insects). This is the second night in a row I have started to doze off typing a post at the end of the day. As long as it is while typing from a bed then it should be fine. I am thankful for my hosts (in Texas at the time of this post) making this trip more memorable. This post should have officially posted last night; however, I was up later than expected discussing various topics. I do not know how I am still awake and somewhat functioning. I should get some sleep since it is ~0540 CT (central time). I hope for my sake there are not too many errors as I type and nod off.

NOTE: I forgot to comment previously on the amount of truck injury billboards in the area with catchphrases such as: Hit by a Truck Call Chuck. This is not an endorsement nor was not paid for by Chuck, but obviously it was one of the effective ads. So with so many billboards truck injuries must be common, lucrative, or both? I also noticed a surprising number of Dairy Queens and Sonics as well which are not as common back home. I am told still need to try Whataburger. The vast emptiness on the 90 is something I will miss because it meant no billboards/adverts for those long stretches between towns. It reminded me of some trips through Death Valley, absolutely nothing and little to no distractions. One of the few places I could truly "disconnect" without exercising self control.
