If you are wondering how I occupy myself for hours staring at the same scenery it often goes something like this...with music. There are so many songs to shuffle through and it has been a while since a karaoke night.
Today started off well with a quick McDonald's breakfast courtesy of my host and then I was off to Las Cruces, NM. It was a mostly uneventful ride with music and the occasional phone call to occupy my time. Aside from the small detour down some U.S. Highway 191 through some back roads looping up to U.S. Highway 186 through Wilcox, AZ I was back on the 10 East (which I would later regret). I had to be mindful of the random tumbleweeds blowing across my path but otherwise a normal ride. I stopped in Bowie, AZ for gasoline and I thought the header image would be the most interesting I would see today.
I crossed the Continental Divide at some point once I was in New Mexico. Unfortunately as I approached my rest stop for the evening being only about 20 minutes away everyone just stopped...it went from cruising the speed limit to 0 miles per hour in some seconds. I thought it was a temporary inconvenience until I saw people exiting their vehicles. The day was going to be more exciting than I had expected. If you saw my post here you know this is not my first time being stuck on the road for an extended period.
I overheard someone mention a vehicle had flipped/rolled which caused traffic to halt. This setback occurred around 1715 MT (GMT-6) and it did not start moving again until 1837. Some cars could not wait and instead chose to cross the center divider to head West.
Once traffic was flowing again I rode by the semi-truck with trailer rolled on its side just to the left of the interstate. Hopefully no serious injuries were incurred by anyone.
I eventually made it the rest stop I am staying at this evening and check-in. I met a person in the lobby starting from Tuscon, AZ also riding East. Their destination is Tennessee with no set timeline so as long as funds are available they will ride on which seems like a good problem to have (if funds are sufficient). Due to the setback earlier I opted for what I thought would be a quick dinner pickup across the street at McDonald's. The lobby is still closed to guests which required me to download the mobile app to order my food and identify as a car for curbside pickup. I ordered my usual, but my order of 10 McNuggets was missing one. I know, first world problems.
I also rode near a sign for the Rio Grande today.
