I was able to redeem my rain check voucher today and I met up with an old friend. The ride there was through some Farm Roads again and I am still surprised at the amount of green (trees) in East Texas. The weather was fantastic today with a good temperature and great visibility. It required some backtracking to make this visit happen, but it was worth the ride even if it was a shorter than I would have liked. Trust GPS only so much because it can still be inaccurate or perhaps it is user error. Apparently if I just rode through the fence I would have made it to my destination, but I navigated myself through the currently preferred entrance.
I received the nickel tour and I was reminded again I cannot comprehend an acre (or acre++). Throughout my stay in Texas I was warned about (dangerous) snakes and I can say for now I was fortunate enough not to cross paths with any...that I am aware of. If I did not have such a tight timeline I would have spent more time in Texas, but it will have to wait until a return trip is possible. I only type this now because I was there during decent weather? I did not experience any traffic in Texas which was unusual but that changed once I crossed into Louisiana. I am grateful for my hosts in Texas and their hospitality. I look forward to seeing everyone again in the future as time allows.
After lunch with my friend I set the next coordinates in the GPS for New Orleans, LA. Again so much more green than I expected on the ride and more green once I entered Louisiana. There are two things I had only now realized after crossing into Louisiana:
The 10 through Louisiana is amazing with the amount of water it traverses. I could not help but wonder what I would do if something like this scene happened while traveling over a bridge. The other interesting thing to me is the different verbiage used by states for warning signs related to bridges:
I recall laughing at this New Mexico sign: DUST STORMS MAY EXIST (emphasis mine)
I eventually made it to New Orleans and I did a quick ride through some of the streets near the Superdome. It was getting dark though so I got back on the highway and found lodging for the evening. The first location I stopped at is closed until further notice. New Orleans will likely be another location I will have to visit at some point to see what the hype is about. At the very least I need to return just to acquire this sign:
I forgot to mention I learned on the River Walk tour that Phil Collins is all about The Alamo. I was also informed The Alamo was used as a (grocery) store.
