Coast to Coast (Manifest Destiny)

Today was the big day. I finally headed as far East as I planned for this trip, the Atlantic Ocean. I likely would have went sooner but as you may know there was a small gasoline shortage. It was going to be a couple hours or so on the bike, but that is relatively short compared to my other riding days. Traffic was not an issue on the way there and the toll road was even free at the time. I finally made it to Va Beach. We found metered parking and paid $6 for 3 hours, the maximum amount of time. While we were walking towards the beach there was some commotion across the street. A bit of expletives from a couple people with some dogs disagreeing over something. Some people came out from the restaurant likely to observe the tiff across the street and one casually mentioning World Star. A person outside the restaurant complimented my bike and mentioned they do not usually care for bikes.

It was around "lunch time" so we started our walk towards Mahi's to get a bite to eat. It was many blocks to the restaurant but it gave us the opportunity to find some photo locations. I went with one of my usuals: double cheeseburger. It was a beautiful day with great weather...almost as if I never left Southern California.

After lunch we walked towards King Neptune for some "proof" that I did in fact make it to the East coast. It might not have been the best idea to walk in all my gear, but it was not that bad.

Apparently there is enough interest for people to tour the beach by horseback, for a fee.

We eventually made it to the statue (do not look too closely at the pixels, it is definitely not shopped).

So after 3726.8 miles I made it to the Atlantic Ocean via motorcycle.

Now you may be wondering what happened to my leaning tower from the previous posts. Times were rough and I had to barter for gasoline just to make it this far. Not really, but imagine? All the gear was at home base.

We went to Wawa to get gasoline before the ride back home...unfortunately this ride was longer. There was a 6 mile backup at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. The traffic was awful and it appeared to be traffic for the sake of traffic. Once we made to and through the tunnel it cleared up, and we were cruising again. This is not one of the tunnels I would advise holding your breath through. Time to prepare for tomorrow.
