HER Track Days

This post is a bit delayed because busy or lazy with life. Remember how my card was declined multiple times at a few gas stops at the end of my recent trip? Well since there there has been no contact from my provider and my card has continued to work without issue. I should probably find out what happened to avoid the issue in the future; however, I will let future my burn that bridge if it happens again.

CAUTION Photo heavy post. CAUTION

For those of you who may not know my first motorcycle is a 2015 Kawasaki Ninja 300. However, I have "sponsored" a rider until they acquire a new ride. Grom life has some limits. They were signed up for a track day event and I invited myself so I could support them. I brought camera and borrowed a fancy lens with the hope of getting a couple decent photos. I also invited a friend that rides so we rode together, but on separate hogs. Onward to Streets of Willow Springs for Her Track Days. Riders needed to arrive at some awful early morning hour and we left at 0600 PT arriving around 0800 PT. Weather forecast was hot for Rosamond, but it was cold the entire ride up.

I was fortunate in having a base camp I could loiter at for the event. Today's event had (4) four groups, beginner, intermediate, advanced, and an invite group for men. Each group with about (20) twenty minutes or track time before rotating. Instructors visible by their colorful tutu.

Riders today:

  • do not crash
  • only pass on straights
  • keep a safe distance between riders
  • learn
  • have fun

The most important being do not crash because safety and no more track for the day.

So apparently having a camera is an invitation for conversation. Earlier in the day I had a person appear next to me after taking a photo saying they put bunny ears on me. They were sneaky, but I guess it is easy if the other person has an eye closed with another in a zoomed lens while they listen to motorcycles. We had a brief chat and they asked to see through viewfinder. Unfortunately at this moment they noticed a rider went down in the second turn. They were injured, but as far as I know nothing critical.

While it was warm it was also windy so not too bad while in the shade. A canopy at another site started to blow away and had to be anchored down more securely. The person's site I was at experienced the same thing once before so they were prepared today. They also provided snacks and drinks which was great. Later in the day another person approached me and asked a few questions, including if I could take some photos for them. It is unusual, is this how people sometimes make new friends? I asked about their bike so I know who to look for on the track. Pink bike. How pink?

Very pink and the peace sign acknowledgement helped identify them too. This is Bonnie. Bonnie is fast and credits me here with a few of my photos.

It is almost always a great time when enthusiasts get together to enjoy a shared interest. Today was great and I am glad there are people organizing events supporting new and seasoned riders. Photographers and drones to capture moments. I had to leave a bit early to race back for a friend's kids birthday party. Another busy day of riding.

Today I:

  • learned it is easy to lose a moving object and subsequently find it while zooming in.
  • learned lenses get heavy over time.
  • captured 247 photos.

I am just a poser that rides street. I have not participated on a track, yet? I still <3 my first bike. Keep the rubber side down.
