As you may know I take advantage of the day(s) I am not on the road. Today was no different and I took advantage of sleeping in...again. When I finally got out of bed it was almost time to head out for lunch with my host and their friend. We went to HalfSmoke and played some Jenga while waiting for food. I am bad and I had to do a couple retries. In the end I did not cause this particular tower to come tumbling down. I had delicious loaded tater tots and pizza.
I know I said I would not sight-see but if you have not learned this by now, I sometimes fib. While I was eating lunch a friend instant messaged me (The Internet is truly amazing) and recommended I check out the World War II Memorial. While on the way we stopped by the more recent World War I Memorial.
The above image will be a sculpture with a planned installation in 2024. The memorial has quite a bit of text providing the history of events for WWI. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was a pivotal moment leading to the events when war were declared. Along with the anticipated sculpture there is also a statue of General John Pershing.
We continued on to the WWII Memorial which also offered a view of the Washington Monument.
Looking at this photo I captured of the Washington Monument just reminded me of Isengard as I type this post.
Since we were out I received a quick tour around some of the city. Also pizza, specifically a jumbo slice from Duccini's Pizza. It lives up to the name and I am still working on it because of lunch.
It was time to relax and do more planning. Some background noise provided by Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee which has an amazing variety of cars in it.
